DESCRIPTION: A few preliminary materials precede, but essentially this is the March 1944 (when Parsons began as a chaplain) file at Camp Blanding, FL, near Starke. Camp Blanding was a huge post of some 17,000 with a German P.O.W. camp adjacent. There was a large hospital and approximately twenty chaplains of all faiths. Most of Parson's paperwork pertained to obtaining dispensations for interfaith marriages, getting baptisal proofs, and baptizing those who wanted to get married.
DATE SPAN: 04/01/1944 - 04/30/1944
DESCRIPTION: Continuation of the same kinds of material as in the preceding file.
DATE SPAN: 05/01/1944 - 06/30/1944
DESCRIPTION: Continuation of the kinds of material in the preceding file.

DATE SPAN: 12/01/1944 - 01/15/1946
DESCRIPTION: Parsons left Camp Blanding, Florida, and was reassigned to Italy. Marriages naturally dropped off and there is little material of any kind from the European service except for some baptisms and one letter of condolence. Routine office files end here.
DATE SPAN: 01/01/1944 - 10/31/1945
DESCRIPTION: The Monthly Report of Chaplains (War Dept. Chaplain Form 3 [12 Mar 43]), provided space to report on relgious activities, educational or recreational services provided, activities in the civilian community, services by visiting clergymen, and details on service changes.
DATE SPAN: 01/02/1944 - 03/31/1946
DESCRIPTION: Similar to the military monthly reports, but briefer, more to the point. Good summaries of baptisms and weddings.
DATE SPAN: 07/03/1943 - 12/31/1944
DESCRIPTION: Parsons had responsibilities for Catholic religious service among the German P.O.W.s, but he was largely restricted to saying Mass (In Latin of course) because he could speak no German and so understand confessions. The files convey his efforts to provide such services by other means. There is correspondence with the Apostolic Delegation in Wash DC, the Catholic Central Verein of America (a 19th & 20th c. German-American group), and misc suppliers of printed materials appropriate for the German prisoners.
